About Us

Dawn Welch
dawnDawn Welch is the owner and head chef of The Rock Cafe on Route 66 in Stroud, Oklahoma. As a busy working mom and a mother of two, Dawn knows how to stretch a dollar when it comes to cooking, either for her family and friends, or at her restaurant.

A small place with a big reputation, “The Rock” was constructed in 1939 from hunks of red sandstone excavated to make way for Route 66. Dawn bought the restaurant in 1993 at the age of 24 and has turned it into a down-home destination for both locals and tourists.

The Welch home is a hangout where Dawn loves to feed friends and family with affordable, healthy meals. Once you walk into her front door or the door to the Rock Cafe you are immediately treated like family.

Dollars To Donuts, her first book, is an expression of Dawn’s philosophy and her passion for creating delicious, affordable and healthy recipes.

Raquel Pelzel
raquelRaquel Pelzel is a cookbook author and a food and travel writer.

A special projects editor for Fine Cooking magazine, her articles about food, wine, and travel, restaurant reviews, and her original recipes have been published in the Wall Street Journal, Saveur, Prevention, Country Home, and many more.

In addition to writing Dollars to Donuts with Dawn Welch, Pelzel has co-authored several cookbooks, including American Masala, Simply Delicioso, Two Dudes, One Pan and DamGoodSweet. Her first solo cookbook project, New Flavors for Desserts, debuted in November 2008.

Pelzel studied culinary arts at the School of Natural Cookery in Boulder, Colorado and at Johnson & Wales University in Rhode Island. She lives in Brooklyn, New York with her husband and two sons.
